If you are an Officer facing a separation board, it is called a Board of Inquiry. Generally speaking, all of the same rules that would apply to an Enlisted servicemember separation board (ASB) apply to an Officer’s separation (BOI). The biggest similarity is that everyone on your BOI will be senior in rank to you. The dangerous thing that Officers face is that they generally have a board that will look harder at them because the idea is the servicemember is an Officer and should be setting the example for others in the formation.
